UVC Flow Calibration Principles

Turbine flowmeters are sensitive to the viscosity of the fluid being measured as well as its density and velocity. The paper discusses this sensitivity to viscosity and outlines the UVC method which is used to compensate it's effects. Subjects covered are:

Nature of Absolute Viscosity
Kinematic vs Absolute Viscositiy
Temperature and Pressure effects
Reynolds Number - Laminar vs Turbulent Flow
Viscous Drag effects on a Turbine Flowmeter

The limitations of the UVC Method are explored as well as tools which are available in the market place (such as the UVC editor utility offered by TrigasFI GmbH), which can be used to effectively implement the UVC concepts in day-to-day flow measurement applications.
